How do we make arrangments to use the Green Mountain Retreat?

  • Call first, to find out if the retreat is available. Call Donna Gaston 802-633-2688.
  • Go to the Reservations page for the information you need to provide. 
  • A non-refundable deposit of "one third of your total", is due at the time you reserve the Retreat.
  • The balance of payment is due on arrival. Please make your check out to Presbyterian Church of Barnet .

Facilities Summary:
  • Sleeping (cots) and dining space for up to forty people. 
  • Full kitchen with restaurant-size stove, two refrigerators, and plenty of pots and pans and dishes.
  • The dining area amply supplied with tables and chairs, adjoins the kitchen.
  • Sturdy cots fill the high-ceilinged second floor dormitory, and more can be set up in the rear dining room. 
  • Two bathrooms located downstairs include showers as well as toilets and vanity sinks.
  • Trash and recycling services are provided.
  • Telephone for emergency calls.

  1. Enjoy yourselves. Achieve your goals for your retreat. Carpe diem!
  2. You are welcomed to join our Sunday Service next door. See Pastor Howard for other uses of the sanctuary.
  3. All equipment in the building may be used by group members.  At the conclusion of your stay, please try to leave things as they were found originally.

Who Owns the Green Mountain Retreat Center?

  • The Green Mountain Retreat Center is owned by the Presbyterian Church of Barnet, Vermont.

 

 


 

What about Food?

  • You can bring and cook your own food in the full kitchen with restaurant-size stove, two refrigerators, and plenty of pots and pans and dishes.
  • There are grocery stores in nearby St. Johnsbury, Vermont (north) or Woodsville NH (south)

What is the area like, are there stores neaby?

  • This is a rural area (Mountains, rivers, lakes, farms and views)
  • Our town of Barnet has available: two convenience stores stores, auto mechanics, a post office, library and public beach at a beautiful nearby lake.
  • St. Johnsbury, VT, about 15 minutes to our north, has many stores and services including: drug stores, laundromats, grocery stores, movie theaters, department stores, a hospital and medical services, hardware stores, many specialty stores even a museum with a small planetarium.
  • A 20 minute ride south will get you to Wells River VT and neighboring Woodsville NH which also have several restaurants, grocery stores and large department stores.

 

 

 


 

What should we bring?

  • You will need to bring your own sleeping bags or bed linens.
  • Food and personal supplies.
  • A flashlight is always a good idea in a rural environment.

 

 

 

 


 

Can you handle special needs?

  • That depends. It's best to discuss what needs you have.

 

 

 

 

 


 

Are you open year round?

  • The Green Mountain Retreat is normally open from May through September
  • Call about winter rates (higher to cover heating costs)

 

 

 

 


 

Can we use the beach at Harvey's Lake?

  • Yes. You can purchase a day pass at the beach. Group passes are available. Ask during registration.
  • There are picnic tables and barbeque grills at the lake.
  • If you want to go boating, there is a public boat ramp on the far side of the lake.

 

 

 

 


 

Is there cell phone service?

  • Yes. There is coverage at the retreat center.  However cell phone coverage in this area of the country is spotty particularly in between hills and mountains and in the wilderness.

 

 

 

 

 


 

Is the internet available?

  • The Barnet Village library offers wireless access to the Internet 
  • The Peacham Public library offers wireless access to the internet
